Leg-spinner Stuart MacGill picked the last two Indian wickets, of Zaheer Khan (27) and Ashish Nehra (0), to wrap up the Indian first innings. He finished with figures of 4-86.

India were bowled out for 409, taking a slender lead of 86 runs. India's lower order provided stiff resistance, with the last five batsmen scoring 95 runs and occupying the crease for 287 minutes.
