Punjab got two points from their drawn match against Uttar Pradesh on the fourth day of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group B season-opener at the PCA stadium in Mohali on Wednesday.

The match ended with the hosts set to chase a target of 279 runs after UP declared at 317 for eight wickets, having resumed this morning at the overnight score of 206 for two.

Punjab failed to reach the target, scoring 164 for five at close of play.

Overnight Uttar Pradesh batsman Jyoti P Yadav was the first to go after reaching 103 (15 x 4), out leg before wicket to Uniyal when the board read 244 for three.

The wickets of Suresh Raina (61), Praveen Gupta (3), Gyanendra Pandey (22), Mohd. Amir Khan (3) and AW Zaidi (26) fell at regular intervals, but the scoreboard kept moving and the visitors declared at 317 for eight.

Reetinder Sodhi (4 for 39) and A Uniyal (3 for 61) were the main wicket takers for Punjab.

Chasing a target of 279 in the remaining 64 overs, the home side could reach 164 for five at close in 59 overs.

Yuvraj Singh (41 not out, 5 x 4), Reetinder Sodhi (33, 6 x 4) and Gourav Gupta (26, 4 x 4) were the main scorers while RP Singh (3 for 46) was the successful wicket taker.
