Rajender Varma hit an unbeaten half century to guide India to a thumping nine-wicket victory over Pakistan in the first match of the Petro Cup series for blind cricketers in New Delhi on Thursday.

Varma, who is B1 category cricketer and is completely blind, scored 84 runs and skipper Manvender Singh, a partially blind (B2) category player, was another major contributor with 32 not out as India made 158 for one in 18.5 overs in reply to Pakistan's 156 all out in 23.5 overs.

India lost only one wicket in Shekhar Naik, who was caught by Tarik Samuel off Pakistan captain Syed Sultan Shah when he was 18.

Earlier, Pakistan, the current world champions, had a shaky start losing two quick wickets to be placed at 2 for 2 after electing to bat.

Abdul Razzak was the top scorer with 34 while skipper Shah (24) and Mohammad Shahbaz (20) were the other batsmen who helped their side put up the decent target.

Shekhar Naik took 2 wickets for 18 runs and Nirmal Kumar picked 1-15 for India.

Pakistan have come to play the reciprocal series after India visited Lahore in February last year when they lost 1-4.
