Indo-Pak ties getting stale: PCB chief

December 03, 2005 21:08 IST

Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Shaharyar said that India and Pakistan, were playing against each other ''too often'' on Saturday.

Khan, who is in Mumbai to meet the new office bearers of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), told reporters that he would work out with new BCCI chief Sharad Pawar a formula wherein the two countries could play each other every two years, so that the rivalry on the field remains fierce and dishes out top class cricket from both the sides.

''At the moment, we are strangling the goose that lays the golden egg,'' the former diplomat said.

He also informed that the two cricket boards would iron out the differences in the itinerary for the forthcoming India tour o his country.

''These are minor issues which I am sure would be sorted out in no time,'' he said.

Explaining further, Khan said they had forwarded a proposed itinerary to the Indian board four months back where Karachi would hold the first Test, but the Indian board wanted a warm-up game which could not be held in Karachi. ''Therefore, we said that the warm-up game and the first Test would be held in Lahore,'' he said.

''Now, there is again a rethink on the warm-up game and I am sure I will be able to sort it out in the talks with the Indian board which I will be having over the weekend,'' he added.

The Indians are scheduled to reach Pakistan on January 1 for three Tests and 5 one-day internationals to be played between January five and February 12.

Soon after the series, the visitors will participate in the six-nation Asia Cup being hosted by the PCB.
