UP collapse to an innings defeat December 04, 2005 20:00 IST After Jacob Martin's unbeaten 251, Baroda trio of Rajesh Pawar (3/39), Irfan Pathan Sr (3/48) and Rakesh Patel(3/62) ran through the Uttar Pradesh line up to help Baroda win their Ranji Trophy Elite Goup B match by an innings and 93 runs in Ghaziabad on Sunday. Resuming their innings at 562 for seven, the visitors declared at 605 for nine with Martin still there in the crease. He spent more than 10 hours in the middle, facing 492 deliveries and his stellar knock included 29 hits to the fence besides a six. With a mountain to climb, Uttar Pradesh lost their opener Rohit Prakash with the score reading just 14 and lost wickets at regular intervals as the Pawar-Pathan-Patel trio ran havoc. Neither veterans Jyoti Yadav (2) or Gyanendra Pandey (12) could arrest the slide and after Pathan castled Suresh Raina (23), the writing on the wall was clear. Wicketkeeper Amir Khan (38) waged a grim battle trying to delay the inevitable but that was clearly not enough in the end.
