India elect to bat in 2nd Test

December 10, 2005 10:08 IST

India's opening batsman Virender Sehwag was ruled out of the second Test against Sri Lanka on Saturday because of a fever and throat infection.

The attacking batsman was dropped from the side after he was admitted to hospital and put on a drip, with doctors advising him rest for a few days.

His place was taken by in-form batsman Yuvraj Singh, which was the only change to the side.

Indian captain Rahul Dravid won the toss and elected to bat on a pitch where seamers are expected to get some help on a winter morning.

Sri Lanka retained the same team which dominated the severely rain-affected, drawn first Test in Chennai.

The start of play was delayed as the umpires found too much dew on the ground.
