Indian veterans beat Pak by 4 wickets

December 26, 2005 21:18 IST

A scintillating knock of 68 by opener Atul Wassan helped Indian veterans beat their Pakistani counterparts by four wickets in a 40-over limited overs cricket match played in Sirsa, Haryana on Monday.

The other Indian opener Manoj Prabhakar also contributed to the win with a knock of 29 after the home team had been set a target of 234 by the visitors.

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Pakistan's Mansoor Akhtar (75) gave his team a solid start while S Ali Nabad (29) also made some useful runs.

For the Indians, Atul Wassan, Vivek Razdan, Venkatpathy Raju and Rajesh Chauhan claimed a wicket each.

In their run chase, the Indians cruised along comfortably and were never really threatened.

Wassan earned the man-of-the-match award for his effort.

Surinder Khanna (35), Sameer Dighe (13) and V Yadav (31) were among those who contributed for the home team.

For the visitors, Ali Zia claimed two wickets while Naved Anjum, Mohsin Kamal, Manzoor Elahi and captain Rashid Latif claimed a wicket each.

Brief scores:

Pak Veterans 233 for four in 40 overs (Mansoor Akhtar 75).

Indian Veterans: 234 for four (Atul Wassan 68 and Manoj Prabhakar 29).

Sub: Come on they are not all veterans !

There is plenty of cricket in those guys. Many of them have been forced into retirement by some non cricketers.
