BCCI to decide on A'bad on Tuesday

Onkar Singh in New Delhi | February 07, 2005 11:18 IST

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) would take a final decision in regard to holding a Test match between India and Pakistan at Ahmedabad on Tuesday.

Pakistan Cricket Board had refused to play the Test match at Ahmedabad on political grounds rather than security reasons.

Speaking to rediff.com Ranbir Singh Mahendra, president of BCCI, said that they have received an official confirmation in this regard from PCB and the matter has been referred to the government of India.

"We have intimated the government about the objections raised by Pakistan Cricket Board about playing Test match in Ahmedabad and we are in touch with the government. Final decision regarding the change of the venue, if required, would be taken up on Tuesday," he said.

Mahendra and other members of the board including Rajiv Shukla, vice president, are expected to call on minister of home Shivraj Patil and external affairs minister Natwar Singh today in a bid to find out the government response.

"There is no threat to the tour," Shukla clarified when asked if the tour is likely to be called off as demanded by Narhari Amin, president of Gujarat Cricket Association if Pakistan refused to play at Ahmedabad.

"We are in touch with PCB and have asked them to rethink on their decision," Shukla added.

Pakistan Cricket Board had refused to play at Ahmedabad citing Gujarat riots as the reason.
