Pakistan batsman Yousuf Youhana would undergo a surgery for a chronic shoulder problem that had been bothering him for the last two and half years.

The 29-year-old batsman said two MRIs and an ultrasound carried out in Lahore last week had shown that he had muscle and tissue ruptures in his right shoulder, which required to be repaired urgently.

"For the last few months I have had great difficulty in gripping the bat properly or making long-distance throws while fielding as the shoulder has hurt me a lot. But because of the team requirements I didn't have time to go for a proper treatment," Youhana told local daily The News.

"But now with Pakistan's next series scheduled in October against England I think this is the best time to get the shoulder treated so that I can play comfortably again."

Youhana will appear before the Pakistan Cricket Board medical panel later this week to discuss his injury. The panel  will then recommend if he needs to be sent abroad for surgery and rehabilitation.

Youhana said he would be going to Houston for the Asian XI vs World XI matches as he had committed to the organisers.

"They are basically exhibition matches and I will come back and start treatment."

PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan, meanwhile, told the newspaper that the Board was keen to get the best possible treatment for Youhana as he was a major player in the team.

"We will go according to the recommendations of the medical panel but if he needs to be sent anywhere we will do it and bear all expenses," he said.
