The International Cricket Council has asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India to give writing that it wants to take the Sourav Ganguly suspension issue further so that it could be referred to the ICC Disputes Resolution Committee.

According to an ICC statement, the BCCI has notified the ICC Executive Board that it intends to dispute the process that was used to deal with the Indian captain's appeal under the ICC Code of Conduct.

"The ICC, through its president Ehsan Mani, has agreed that should the BCCI wish to take this matter further it must write to the ICC, which would then refer this to the ICC Disputes Resolution Committee," the statement said.

Earlier, Mani, after the ICC Executive Board meeting, Mani said reports appearing in India that the game's governing body is likely to reopen Ganguly's case regarding the six-match suspension were "incorrect."

He said the Ganguly issue did not come up for discussion during the Board meeting.

Ganguly was slapped with a six-match suspension for his team's slow over-rate during the one-day series against Pakistan.

The BCCI had appealed against the suspension but it was turned down by ICC Appeals Commissioner, Michael Belloff.
