Pakistan to host India in Jan 2006

May 13, 2005 15:47 IST

Pakistan cricket authorities said on Friday they would host India early next year for three Tests and five One-Day Internationals before staging the Asia Cup.

Pakistan Cricket Board chief Shaharyar Khan said India would tour from January 2, with the Asia Cup staged from February 14 to 26.

Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Oman and UAE are scheduled to play in the Asia Cup. Its programme was finalised after a meeting of the Asian Cricket Council executive committee in Kuala Lumpur earlier this week.

Pakistan, India and Oman are in Group A, with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and UAE in Group B. It is the first time Pakistan have hosted the event since its inception in 1984.

India's tour next year will be the third series between the countries in a span of 22 months after the Indians ended a four-year freeze on bilateral cricket relations to tour Pakistan last year.

Pakistan are also due to host England for three Tests and five one-dayers at the end of the year. England last toured Pakistan in 2000-1, winning the Tests 1-0.
