Ganguly hopeful of playing Lanka series

October 07, 2005 22:11 IST

Hours after being ruled out of the Challenger Series with an elbow injury, Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly expressed hope of regaining full fitness and being ready for the coming home series against Sri Lanka.

"I will probably play in the Sri Lanka series," Ganguly told newspersons at the NSC Bose International airport in Kolkata after returning from Mumbai, where he was examined by team physio John Gloster and Board of Control for Cricket in India's medical panel chief Anant Joshi.

Ganguly said he would follow the treatment prescribed by Joshi in the next few days to get fit before the seven-match one-day series against Sri Lanka, starting on October 25.

"I'll follow whatever the Board doctor has asked me to do," said Ganguly, who has been diagnosed with a 'mild tennis elbow symptom'.

Ganguly, however, refused to go into the details about his injury, saying, "Gloster and Joshi have made a statement and I'll stick to that."

On whether he would be available for the Duleep Trophy, where he has been chosen captain of the East Zone team, Ganguly replied: "I hope so."

Ganguly has been asked to rest for ten days, after which he would have to appear before Joshi and Gloster in Mumbai on October 17 for reassessment of his fitness.
