Chappell to monitor Ganguly's fitness

M Chhaya in Kolkata | October 15, 2005 16:04 IST

India coach Greg Chappell will be present when deposed skipper Sourav Ganguly proves his fitness in Mumbai on October 18.

The two, who have no love lost between them, last met in Mumbai on September 27 when they presented their side of the story on their differences before the Board of control for Cricket in India officials.

According to BCCI sources, Chappell expressed the desire to be present during Ganguly's session with Indian team physio John Gloster and Board-appointed sports medicine expert Dr Anant Joshi.

The coach, in any case, has left for Mumbai from Mohali on Friday after the selection of the Indian team for the first two matches of the one-day international series against Sri Lanka.

Dr Joshi was initially supposed to examine Ganguly on October 17, but the appointment was pushed back by a day because he was abroad.

The fitness exam is being considered as an acid test for Ganguly if he is to make a comeback into the Indian team. Also, he would have to perform in the Duleep Trophy match between East Zone and West Zone.
