For a man used to claiming and reclaiming records at will, this is an embarrassing one.

Following the World XI's Super Series loss against Australia in the one-off Test, Brian Lara picked up the distinction of being on the losing side for the most number of times in Tests. He has now lost 55 of the 118 Tests he has appeared in.

The Trinidad batsman surpassed England's Alec Stewart, who held the record at 54 defeats in 133 matches.

With the West Indies series against Australia approaching, Lara would be hoping for more positive records in the bag.

The 36-year-old, who became the first cricketer to score 400 in Tests (against England in Antigua last year), is only 315 runs short of Allan Border's world record of most number of runs in Tests -- 11,174.

The only other active player in the top 10 all-time losers' list is Shivnarine Chanderpaul (41 losses from 88 matches), who has lost almost every second Test he played in.
