Sachin Tendulkar has opted out of the ICC Super Series in Australia next month under instructions from the Board of Control for Cricket in India's sports injury specialist, Dr Anant Joshi.

"Dr Anant Joshi, who has been supervising the rehabilation programme for Tendulkar's elbow has advised that he should participate in at least one domestic game to evaluate his recovery before participating in competitive cricket," BCCI executive secretary in-charge R S Shetty said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Therefore Tendulkar has opted out of the Super Series," it added.

Tendulkar's recovery inadequate

The International Cricket Council had given Tendulkar time till September 21 to prove his fitness for next month's series between Australia and the Rest of the World.

The master batsman was named in the Rest of the World one-day (best-of-three series) and Test (six-day one-off) squads.

Tendulkar, who underwent surgery for tennis elbow in May, skipped India's tours to Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe as he was not confident of his elbow withstanding the rigours of international cricket.

The ace batsman suffered an injury that was diagnosed as tennis elbow during the Videocon Cup tri-series in Amsterdam in August last year and made a comeback in the third Test against Australia in Nagpur in October after physiotherapy. Due to persistence of the injury he underwent surgery in London in May.
