The Board of Control for Cricket in India has directed its players not to air their views in public while it investigates a damaging row between captain Sourav Ganguly and coach Greg Chappell.

BCCI issued the warning on Sunday to all players, coach and manager of the just-ended Zimbabwe Test series.

A special committee, including former captains Sunil Gavaskar, Srinivas Venkatraghavan and Ravi Shastri, are due to meet in Mumbai on Tuesday to discuss the row. They will also review India's recent poor one-day form.

"You are advised to apply restraint and not make any comments to the media that affects the interest of Indian cricket," the BCCI said in its directive to the players.

The rift came into the open in Zimbabwe when Ganguly told the media he was asked to step aside before the first Test in Bulawayo to make room for an in-form batsman.

Ganguly made a hundred in that game and Chappell then said he had only wanted to motivate him.

According to media reports, however, Chappell has since told the board in an e-mail that Ganguly, India's captain since 2000 but struggling for form, should be replaced as captain.

The BCCI's statement came after spinner Harbhajan Singh praised his captain and criticised Chappell on Sunday.
