Australia complete whitewash April 20, 2006 11:48 IST Last Updated: April 20, 2006 13:42 IST Australia crushed Bangladesh by an innings and 80 runs in the second Test to complete a 2-0 series whitewash on Thursday. Spinners Shane Warne and Stuart MacGill took six wickets on the fifth morning to bundle out the hosts for 304 in their second innings. Schedule: Australia in Bangladesh Warne completed his 36th five-wicket haul in Tests with figures of five for 113 and MacGill took 4-95. The visitors declared their first innings on 581 for four, a lead of 384, following nightwatchman Jason Gillespie's record-breaking innings of 201 not out. The paceman, who took eight wickets in the two matches, picked up both man of the match and man of the series awards for his efforts.
Bangladesh were struggling to make Australia bat again after reaching 195 for four at the close of play on Wednesday. The hosts added only 109 runs in 26.2 overs on the final day. First Test centurion opener Shahriar Nafees scored 79 before he was caught behind by Adam Gilchrist off Warne, who also removed hard hitter Mashrafe Mortaza (1) when Gillespie caught him at mid-on. Mohammad Rafique (65) then delighted local spectators with his fourth Test fifty, hitting six sixes and two fours in his 53-ball innings that included three maximums off four deliveries in one Warne over. Rafique was the last man out when he was caught by Warne off the bowling of MacGill, who had earlier removed Abdur Razzak (0), Khaled Mashud (11) and Aftab Ahmed (18).
