Saurashtra face innings defeat December 03, 2006 20:23 IST Saurashtra were looking down the barrel after a lacklustre batting display saw them follow-on, on the penultimate day of their Ranji Trophy Elite division match against Bardoa in Rajkot on Sunday. Resuming at 122 for two, Saurashtra were bowled out for 255, conceding a first innings lead of 151. Following on, the Plate Division champions were quickly down to 36 for two, still needing 115 runs to avoid an innings defeat. Only Cheteshwar Pujara showed some responsibility by scoring an unbeaten 63, inclusive of seven hits to the fence, off 196 balls, in the first innings. He added 22 runs off 44 balls along with last man Maniar. But Maniar was tragically run-out when Saurashtra needed just one run to avoid the follow-on. For Baroda, Rajesh Pawar was the wrecker-in-chief, taking four wickets for 42 runs, while Irfan Pathan (Sr) bagged two for 53. At stumps, Pujara (4) was at the crease with night-watchman Kamlesh Makwana (2) in Saurashtra's second essay. Pawar captured both the wickets, conceding just five runs in his four-over spell in the second innings.
