Saurashtra trounce Delhi December 28, 2006 15:16 IST Saurashtra trounced Delhi by ten wickets on the final day of their four-day Ranji Trophy Super League division match in Rajkot on Thursday. Chasing a target of only 10 runs to win, the hosts completed the formalities in 2.3 overs, just 10 minutes after the lunch break. Earlier, Delhi scored 288 runs in the first innings against Saurashtra's huge total of 492. Following on, the visitors had more trouble in store as they barely managed to avoid an innings defeat by making 213 in the second innings. Resuming at their overnight score 84 for 4, the Delhi batsmen failed to negotiate the hosts' slow bowlers. Skipper Mithun Manhas was the lone batsman to put some resistance with a fighting 86 off 169 balls that contained ten fours and a six. Virat Kohli with 35 was the other major contributor for Delhi. Saurashtra left-arm spinner Rakesh Dhruv was the wrecker-in-chief scalping five Delhi batters and finishing the match with an impressive figure of 9 for 148. He was well supported by Ravindra Jadeja (2 for 38) and Kamlesh Makwana (2 for 42). Saurashtra, who are playing first time in the Super League division, registered their first win in five matches and garnered five points, including a bonus point.
