Williams shines as Baroda beat Mumbai

February 11, 2006 12:04 IST

Connor Williams hit a solid 60 and Dhiren Salvi an unbeaten 43 as Baroda scored a four-wicket victory over Mumbai in the opening match of Ramakant Desai Trophy (West Zone) One-dayers at the IPCL stadium in Vadodara on Friday.

The victory earned Baroda four points.

Baroda, who were chasing a target of 192, were precariously placed at 104-5, but in the end won with eight balls to spare.

Earlier, after winning the toss, Mumbai gave in to the Baroda bowling despite a scintillating knock of 88 by Amol Muzumdar.

Baroda medium pacer Sankalp Vohra (3 wickets for 32 runs) and spinner Rishikesh Parab (3/26) kept the strong Mumbai batting line-up under control.

This is a good win. Baroda deserves this victory. And this is without Zaheer and Irfan in the team.
