Ganguly to miss Ranji one-day opener

February 11, 2006 01:19 IST

Though defending champions West Bengal will miss its star performer Sourav Ganguly for Saturday's match, skipper Deep Dasgupta said the team was confident to take on Tripura in the opening of the East Zone Ranji Trophy one-day round-robin tournament in Dhanbad.

"We are confident and will put up good show," Dasgupta told newsmen after having net practice here.

Ganguly, who is expected to join the team midway, has not yet reached the coal township while the organisers were expecting him to play the subsequent matches for West Bengal.

For the former team India captain, the tournament is an opportunity to come back into the national one-day squad with big scores.

Rahman, an organiser of the Dhanbad Cricket Association said in anticipation of Ganguly's presence 70 percent of tickets have been sold.
