Tripura beat Assam by five wickets February 14, 2006 01:25 IST Manoj Singh struck a match winning 44 as Tripura posted a five-wicket victory against Assam in a low scoring match of the East Zone Ranji Trophy one-day tournament in Dhanbad on Monday. Tripura bowlers Vinit Jain (3/33) and Timir Chanda (3/25) fired on all cylinders to wrap up the Assam innings for a paltry 123 in 46.1 overs before Singh played the fulcrum for his side to record their first win in the second match. Put in to bat, Assam batsmen put up a pathetic show with only three tail-enders managing to reach double digit scores as the Tripura pacers went on the rampage. Anand Katty scored the highest (29; 89 b, 2x4) in the Assam innings, which survived only 195 minutes.
Seamer Sujay Tarafdar (10-0-41-4) inflicted early damages to the Tripura innings, but did not get required assistance from his peers. Tripura, who had suffered a loss against Bengal, bagged four points. Scorecard: Assam Fall of wickets: 1-11, 2-16, 3-25, 4-25, 5-33, 6-40, 7-46, 8-70, 9-95.
