Shukla, Kaif put UP on top January 04, 2006 19:06 IST Shivakant Shukla and Mohd. Kaif put Uttar Pradesh in the driver's seat at the end of the second day in the Ranji Trophy match against Hyderabad in Lucknow on Wednesday. UP scored 340 runs in their first innings, taking a vital lead of 198 runs over Hyderabad, and then grabbed a second innings wicket before the visitors ended the day on 59 in their second innings. Hyderabad still need 140 runs to make UP bat again, having scored 142 runs in the first innings. UP resumed their innings at the overnight score of 101 for 1 and both the not out batsmen, Shivakant Shukla and Mohd. Kaif, frustrated the rival bowlers by scoring easily. Ravikant, who was unbeaten on 58 on Tuesday, went on to complete his century (116), while Kaif failed to achieve the landmark, falling short by nine runs. However, before being separated, the duo added 181 runs for the second-wicket. Piyush Chawla also contributed 54 runs. Left -arm spinner Pragyan Ojha was the most successful bowlers for Hyderabad, claiming six scalps. Hyderabad, in their second innings, started well, but Praveen Kumar, who came to bowl in place of A W Zaidi, dismissed Daniel Manohar with the second ball of his first over.
