Dungarpur slams Ganguly

January 06, 2006 23:37 IST

Indian team manager Raj Singh Dungarpur stirred off an unwanted controversy on the team's first day in Pakistan, when he labeled Sourav Ganguly as the laziest member in the team.

"Even John Wright wanted Sourav out and he expressed his frustration several times to me," Dungarpur told news channel Aaj Tak in Lahore on Friday.

He also criticised the deposed Indian captain's fielding, saying "he is the worst fielder in the side."

"John Wright had a huge problem with Sourav. He cannot be a role model of a captain," the former Board of Control for Cricket in India president added.

It would be interesting to see if Ganguly, who reaches Pakistan on Saturday, responds to the criticism levelled by the man in-charge of the team.

Ganguly is joining the team late as he was doing duty for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy match against Tamil Nadu in Kolkata, where he scored two half centuries.

Also, it remains to be seen whether Dungarpur, famous for his outbursts, will be reprimanded by the BCCI for his irresponsible behaviour at the start of such an important tour.
