Bhatia's 185 saves Delhi the blushes January 13, 2006 19:13 IST Tamil Nadu gained two points on the basis of the first innings lead over Delhi in their last round-robin league Elite Group 'A' Ranji Trophy match in Chennai on Friday. Tamil Nadu ended the league with 11 points as against Delhi's six. It was a creditable show by Delhi as they came back into the match after being reduced to 85 for 3, in reply to the hosts' first innings score of 481 for 6 declared, before being all out for 414. Rajat Bhatia's heroic 185 saved the blushes for Delhi. His 418-minute stay at the wicket contained 21 hits to the fence and three sixes. He also shared an 82-run partnership with Amit Bhandari for the ninth wicket. Bhatia was caught at long off by Ashish Kapoor off Ramkumar. Delhi needed 250 runs from 39 overs to win after Tamil Nadu captain Badrinath declared their second innings at 182 for 6. Though Shikhar Dhawan made a valiant effort with Mithun Minhas, Delhi could muster 117 runs for the loss of opener Akash Chopra's wicket (16, 4x4s) in 32 overs, before the match was called off in the eighth mandatory over. Earlier, Badrinath scored 82 runs off as many balls in Tamil Nadu's second innings. S Sharath was unbeaten on 46.
