Sehwag-Dravid miss record

January 17, 2006 16:03 IST

Scorecard

Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid missed a golden chance of breaking the 50-year world record for the opening wicket partnership by four runs on the fifth and final day of the first Test against Pakistan in Lahore on Tuesday.

The Indian opening pair had put on 410 runs when Sehwag was dismissed for 254, caught behind by wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal off medium pacer Rana Naved-ul Hasan.

The world record stands in the name of India's Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy who made 413 runs against New Zealand in Chennai in 1955-56.

Only two overs were possible before Dravid and new batsman V V S Laxman took the light and walked back to the pavilion.

India had resumed at 403 for no loss on a weather-hit day which saw the entire morning session being ruined.
