England set Pakistan 380 to win

July 17, 2006 17:50 IST

England set Pakistan 380 to win the first Test off 80 overs after Andrew Strauss declared the home side's second innings closed at 296 for eight on the final day at Lord's on Monday.

Liam Plunkett and Matthew Hoggard took the overnight score of 258-7 to 296 before Plunkett was caught behind off medium pacer Abdul Razzaq for 28 a little over half an hour into the morning session.

Hoggard then gave England the perfect start when he dismissed Salman Butt lbw with the first ball of the Pakistan second innings.

The highest successful run chase at Lord's is 344 by the West Indies in 1984.
