Kaif talks big ahead of 3rd Test

India's middle order batsman Mohammad Kaif says the team will not overdo things and mess it up as it seek to win the third cricket Test and go 1-0 up in the four-match series against West Indies.

"We don't want to try too hard and mess up things. We want to go about it with the same routine and keep updating the situation," Kaif said.

Reflecting on the first two Tests where India failed to provide the finishing touch, he said it was more important the team was relaxed before the third Test.

"We did fail to provide the finishing touch but we want to be relaxed for the game. That's important," he said.

India were unable to force a win despite dominating the West Indies in the first two Tests.

Kaif, who has been manning the forward short leg position on and off in recent times, brushed aside doubts about his close catching abilities.

He said fielders who could do the job in different positions could actually help the captain and team.

"For example, a fast bowler is usually confined to third man and fine leg and has to run in to field whenever the ball goes in his direction.

"It could tire him up further. But if he can field within the ring, he can save energy and could thus be fresher.

"I have fielded at forward short leg a few times but only because I haven't played too many Tests, it is not easy to remember it. If I appear on the move in the covers, it doesn't mean I would be fidgety at the forward short leg.

"You need to keep your eyesight on the ball. It is important that you are wanting to field in any position you are asked to by the team. You should always enjoy the task."
