Muralitharan breaks 600-wicket barrier

March 10, 2006 14:21 IST

Sri Lanka spinner Muttiah Muralitharan became the second player to take 600 Test wickets when he dismissed Bangladesh's Khaled Mashud on the third day of the second Test in Bogra on Friday.

Muralitharan, playing in his 101st Test, joined Australia's Shane Warne as the only player to reach the landmark. Leg-spinner Warne holds the Test record of 659 dismissals.

The 33-year-old achieved the feat when Mashud was caught by Lasith Malinga at square leg for six as Bangladesh struggled to save the second Test. It was Muralitharan's second wicket of the innings.
