North get two points from drawn match November 07, 2006 19:25 IST North Zone notched two points against East Zone by virtue of the first innings lead in the Group B Duleep Trophy league match which ended in a draw at the Nehru Stadium in Guwahati on Tuesday. East Zone resumed their innings at the overnight score of 215 for 4, but lost skipper Sourav Ganguly early. Ganguly, who scored a scintillating 118 on Monday, was caught behind off Joginder Sharma before adding to his total. After their skipper's exit, East Zone's batsmen fell in quick succession and the team was all out for 295 runs. Rohan Gavaskar (17) got off to a good start, hitting two fours and a six, but an ambitious shot off Rajesh Sharma saw the end of the Bengal player. Deep Dasgupta (32) tried to stabilise the innings, but was caught by Mithun Manhas off Vishal Bhatia after adding 10 runs to his overnight score of 22. For North Zone, Ashish Nehra and Sharma claimed three wickets each. North Zone began their second innings on a promising note with openers Ravneet Ricky and Akash Chopra putting up 62 runs before the former was castled by Shivsagar Singh. The match was called off at tea when bad light stopped play.
