Bangladesh beat Zimbabwe in Twenty20

November 28, 2006 18:30 IST

Mashrafe Mortaza top scored with 36 and then took a wicket as Bangladesh beat Zimbabwe by 43 runs in their inaugural Twenty20 match in Khulna on Tuesday.

Man of the match Mortaza smashed two fours and two sixes in his 26-ball knock to push Bangladesh to 166.

Zimbabwe off-spinner Prosper Utseya took three wickets for 25 runs.

Zimbabwe slumped to 25 for three thanks to wickets for Mortaza and Shahadat Hossain, who finished with 2-22.

Knocks of 35 from Hamilton Masakadza, including four boundaries and a six, and 38 from Sean Williams with two fours and two sixes, helped steady things but Zimbabwe lost their last five wickets for 19 runs to finish on 123 for nine in their 20 overs.

Left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak took three for 15 runs.

The two teams will play five one-day internationals, starting on Thursday in Khulna.
