East gain big lead over Central October 20, 2006 21:29 IST Last Updated: October 20, 2006 21:51 IST Ashok Dinda's inspiring six-wicket haul and Rohan Gavaskar's fine half-century gave East Zone a healthy lead over Central Zone in their four-day Duleep Trophy match in Gwalior on Friday. At stumps on the second day, East Zone were 204 for 4 in their second innings, an overall lead of 319. Dinda wrecked havoc as he scalped six Central batsmen for 52 runs off his 12.4 overs. Central Zone, who started at their overnight first innings total of 40 for 3, hardly got any breather on Friday morning as Dinda, the experienced Sourav Ganguly and Debasish Mohanty bundled them out for 130. S Abbas Ali put up lone resistance to notch a creditable 57, which included nine boundaries and a six. After gaining a 145-run first innings lead, having scored 245 in their first innings thanks to a superb 106 by Gavaskar, East Zone got off to a good start as openers S G Das and S S Das put on 51 runs for the opening stand. However, they lost three wickets in quick succession before Gavaskar (79 batting, 10x4s) and Ganguly (25, 4x4s) added 58 runs for the fourth wicket. For Central Zone, Praveen Kumar and Piyush Chawala captured two wickets each.
