Charges to be framed against Narvekar

April 04, 2007 20:44 IST

A Goa court on Wednesday ordered the state government to frame charges against Goa Cricket Association president Dayanand Narvekar and nine others in connection with the tickets sale scam of 2000.

The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Margao (South Goa) pronounced the much-awaited order on Wednesday afternoon.

Narvekar, who is a Board of Cricket Control of India vice-president and also Goa's law minister, has been accused in the scam along with nine others.

The Margao police had booked the case against the accused in 2000, when the India-Australia One-Day international was held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, in Fatorda.

All the accused are charged with cheating and forgery under relevant sections of the IPC.

Police are investigating the extra tickets that surfaced during the match, resulting in the chaos outside the stadium.
