BCCI appoints committee to resolve telecast issue

Onkar Singh in New Delhi | February 07, 2007 15:25 IST

Board of Control for Cricket in India president Sharad Pawar, on Wednesday, denied having received a disciplinary report on Virender Sehwag during India's tour of South Africa earlier this year.

On Tuesday, major Indian newspapers and channels had quoted team manager Chetan Desai's report, which highlighted the rift between Sehwag and coach Greg Chappell. The report said that Sehwag had shown a lack of discipline and commitment, citing an example where the Delhi batsman called Chappell and Frazer for an early morning batting practice but did not turn up for it.

"We cannot be reacting to every report in the media," snubbed Pawar, when asked about the incident.

The BCCI constituted a four-member committee, led by vice-president Shashank Manohar, to hold talks with the government on the ordinance on territorial rights of cricket telecast and resolve the issue.

"Mr. Pawar met the Information and Broadcasting minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi to appraise the pros and cons of an ordinance, after which we decided to form the committee," said Rajeev Shukla in a press conference.

Former Board president IS Bindra, Lalit Modi and N Srinivasan and the other members of the committee.

After a three-hour working committee meeting in the capital, BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah also announced the appointment of MP Pandove and central zone selector Sanjay Jagdale as team managers for the World Cup and said that the player contracts would possibly be ready before the team leave for the mega-event.

"The Indian team will leave for the West Indies on February 28. We hope that the contracts will be ready by then and the BCCI will be in a position to get the players' reaction on the same," Shah added.
