Punjab lead by 244 runs, VRV Singh takes seven wickets November 25, 2007 21:39 IST Punjab have taken an overall lead of 244 runs over Uttar Pradesh at the close of the third day's play in the Ranji Super League Group 'B' match. Punjab were 238 for seven with Ravneet Ricky (76) and debutant Charanjit Singh (10) at the crease. Earlier, resuming at the overnight total of 352 for seven, Uttar Pradesh were bowled out for 375, falling six short of Punjab's first innings score. VRV Singh bagged seven wickets removing overnight batsman Piyush Chawla, who scored a brisk 34, and tailender Sudeep Tyagi (0). M Gony bagged two wickets while Birender Singh took one for Punjab. Gaining a slender lead, the hosts did not have a great start losing two quick wickets with just 48 runs on the board. Opener S Sohal made 33 and R Inder (62) offered resistance at the top, but other batsmen failed to impress. Uday Kaul, who made a brilliant 162 in the first innings, failed to open his account falling lbw to S Tyagi. Punjab kept losing wickets at regular intervals and at one stage they were 4-92.
