ICL: Chennai Superstars beat Mumbai Champs

March 23, 2008 17:51 IST

Medium pacer Thiru Kumaran bagged four wickets to help Chennai Superstars crush Mumbai Champs by nine wickets in a Twenty20 match of the ICL in Panchkula on Sunday.

Electing to bat first, Champs were bundled out for a modest 123 in 19.5 overs. Their top order batsmen WS Jayantha (11), Ravi Raj Patil (16) and skipper Nathan Astle (17) failed to convert good starts into big scores.

Opener DS Jadhav, who was run out on 28, was the top scorer for the Champs who have been pushed to the bottom of the points table after Sunday's loss.

Jayantha, wicketkeeper Subhojit Paul (21), JJ van Der Wath (1) and Tino Best (0) were dismissed by Kumaran.

In reply, Superstars surpassed the target with 44 balls to spare with G Vignesh top-scoring with 61 while former Australia ODI player Ian Harvey and R Sathish remaining not out on 31 and 29 respectively.

Superstars are now placed second in the points table behind Lahore [Images] Badshahs, having won three of the six matches they had played so far.

Champs have won just one in the five matches they had played and their net run rate is the worst at minus 1.17.
