A decision on whether a third Test will be added to India's tour of New Zealand in March should be made by next week, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) said on Friday.

Indian officials had asked their New Zealand counterparts to consider adding a Test to the itinerary to help recover lost revenue from cancelled events.

India are scheduled to play two Tests, five one-day internationals and a Twenty20 international in New Zealand from March 6-April 7.

NZC said in a brief statement on Friday that talks between it and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) were continuing and a decision would not be made until next week.

New Zealand media has suggested should a third Test be added, it would likely necessitate the tourists arriving a week earlier and playing the Test before embarking on the already agreed schedule.

The cash-rich BCCI earlier this month reported a revenue loss of around $25 million from the postponement of last year's Champions Trophy in Pakistan, the scrapping of two one-day games against England and the tour of Pakistan in the wake of the terrorĀ attacks in Mumbai in November.

India, who have no international cricket scheduled until the New Zealand tour, are also in talks with Sri Lanka to stage a one-day series.
