Australia retain No. 1 spot in Tests

Australia on Tuesday retained the number one spot in the ICC Test Championship table following their 175-run win over South Africa in the second Test in Durban.

By virtue of this victory, Ricky Ponting's men are assured of $ 175,000 in prize money after they have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

The visitors had earlier won the first Test by 162 runs. India, who won't be featuring in a Test match before the April 1 cut-off date, have a chance to grab the number two position and get richer by $ 75,000 if second-placed South Africa lose the third and final Test against Australia in Cape Town.

They will then slip to third below India. But if the final Test ends in a draw with Australia winning the series 2-0, India and South Africa would be tied at the second spot with 118 ratings points, meaning the prize money would be shared equally between the two sides.

If Australia wrap up the final Test it will go to 130 ratings points, 12 clear of India, who will then come second. But a win for the Proteas will reduce the margin to just nine points.
