K M Birla appointed chairman of MRPL

Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman of the Rs 200 billion Aditya Birla group, has been named Chairman of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited, a joint venture between the Aditya Birla group of companies and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, with immediate effect.

According to the release, Birla tookover the chairmanship from L Zutshi, chairman and managing director of HPCL. The chairmanship is by rotation between the two partners, every two years.

Birla's tenure will see the completion of MRPL's crude oil refining expansion project from 3 million to 9 million metric tonnes per annum and projected turnover in excess of Rs 60 billion, a release added.
