Economic zone structure planned for Delhi

The National Capital Region is being structured as a common economic zone with the objective of evolving uniform tax and tarrif structure for commodities and service throughout the region.

This is to facilitate the envisaged balanced growth of the region. The member-states have agreed to this effect. This follows a decision in the 23rd meeting of the National Capital Region Planning Board on June 13.

The NCRPB was constituted in 1985. It comprises 30,242 square kilometres of area covering entire delhi, parts of Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

The development of the core infrastructure components such as extending efficient telecommunications network, improving highway network, setting up power plants and transmission and distribution of power, development of road rail network, which are crucial for the accelerated development of the NCR have been set in motion as a sequel to the June 1998 meeting of the NCRPB.
