Pivotals make marginal gains; Pentafour turnover on top; Nifty up 5.6 points at 870

Pivotals gained marginally on good buying support by foreign institutional investors and bull operators on the National Stock Exchange today.

The S&P's CNX Nifty opened at 867.15 points, touched the day's high of 874.20, low of 865.70 and closed at 870.00, showing a net gain of 5.60 points from the previous close of 864.40 points.

CNX Nifty Junior also moved up by 9.80 points to 1437.65 from the previous close of 1427.85 points. S&P's CNX Defty gained by 4.45 points to 707.25 from the previous close of 703.30 points.

S&P's CNX 500 increased by 3.62 points to 589.99 from 586.37 points and CNX Midcap 200 went up by 2.40 points to 521.78 from 519.38 points.

The total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 13.38 billion from 57.84 million traded shares in 182,597 trades. Debentures traded value stood at Rs 2.76 million.

Today, NSE witnessed 475 scrips, 416 declined and 120 remained steady. And 23 securities hit their price bands. The top gainers for the day were Grasim Rs 169.50, Tisco Rs 103.20, Colgate Rs 190.50, Tata Chemical Rs 85.75 and BHEL Rs 249.35 while losers for the day were Bajaj Auto Rs 513.60, TVS Suzuki Rs 535.00, Bank of India Rs 20.55, IFCI Rs 17.05 and India Hotels Rs 379.50.

Pentafour Software registered highest turnover of Rs 1.95 billion, followed by Satyam Computers Rs 1.49 billion, ITC Rs 1.32 billion, Zee Telefilms Rs 961.9 million and Tisco Rs 958.5 million.

Other actively traded scrips were Reliance (Rs 675.6 million), Telco (Rs 600 million), Hindustan Lever (Rs 540.6 million), Castrol (Rs 508 million), State Bank of India (Rs 443.1 million), Square D Software (Rs 247.5 million), HCL-HP (Rs 208.2 million), MTNL (Rs 171.9 million), Glaxo (Rs 171.4 million), ACC (Rs 169.6 million), BFL Software (Rs 162.1 million), Infosys Tech (Rs 135.8 million), BHEL (Rs 133 million), Dabur (Rs 121.1 million), Tata Tea (Rs 118.8 million), Bajaj Auto (Rs 107.8 million), Nestle (Rs 101.3 million), Dr Reddy's (Rs 101 million), Raymond's (Rs 95.8 million) and L&T (Rs 90.6 million). Net investment by the FIIs worth Rs 325.4 million while domestic institutions were net sellers worth Rs 106.1 million.
