FIIs renew buying support, pivotals recover; Nifty up 6.5 points, 851.55

Pivotals recovered moderately on renewed buying support from foreign institutional investors and local operators at the National Stock Exchange on the first day of current settlement today.

Reflecting the trend, the S&P CNX Nifty indeed opened at 844.65 points, touched the day's high of 851.55 points, fell to touch the day's low of 836.85 points before closing at 851.55 points, showing a net gain of 6.50 points as against the previous close of 845.05 points.

CNX Nifty Junior closed higher by 9.60 points to 1423.25 points from the previous close of 1413.65 points. S&P CNX Defty increased by 5.85 points to 693.65 points from the previous close of 687.80 points.

S&P CNX-500 and CN Midcap-200 rose by 4.18 and 4.56 points to 578.48 and 516.73 as against the previous close of 574.30 and 512.17 points respectively.

Total turnover on the NSE stood at Rs 14.49 billion that came from trading in 60.68 million shares through 192,389 trades during the day. Debentures traded were valued at Rs 2.55 million.

Today, 585 scrips advanced, 326 declined and 98 remain unchanged.

Satyam Computers topped the list of turnover by registering highest turnover of Rs 3.13 billion, followed by ITC Rs 1.78 billion, Pentafour Software Rs 1.61 billion, Zee Telefilms Rs 1.46 billion, Telco Rs 1.06 billion and Reliance Rs 498 million.

Other actively traded scrips were SBI (Rs 427.2 million), Tisco (Rs 400.4 million), ACC (Rs 286.9 million), Castrol (Rs 284.8 million), Square D Software (Rs 280.5 million), Silverline (Rs 203 million), MTNL (Rs 192.6 million), Raymond (Rs 186.3 million), Glaxo (Rs 174.9 million), Dabur (Rs 173.9 million), Infosys Technologies (Rs 134.2 million), HCL-HP (Rs 133.1 million), L&T (Rs 131.3 million), Hindustan Lever (Rs 130.2 million), LML (Rs 101.7 million), Dr Reddy's (Rs 95.8 million), HPCL (Rs 77.9 million), Bajaj Auto (Rs 77.9 million) and BHEL (Rs 66.8 million).

The gainers were Telco which closed at Rs 145.90 (Rs 138.30), ACC Rs 900.10 (Rs 866.10), Reliance Petroleum Rs 19.80 (Rs 19.15), East India Hotels Rs 228 (Rs 221.05 ) and ABB Rs 513.95 (Rs 500.55).

The losers included HPCL Rs 224.30 (Rs 230.70), Infosys Technologies Rs 2552.50 (Rs 2593.00), Castrol Rs 662 (Rs 672), Asian Paints Rs 293 (Rs 297) and MTNL Rs 175.20 (Rs 177.50).

FIIs' net investment stood at rs 127.4 million while the exchange witnessed net outflow of investment by Indian financial institutions to the tune of Rs 51.9 million.
