Bengal denies concessions to Dunlop, says management must win back faith of FIs, BIFR and workers

West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu today asked the management of Dunlop India Limited to convince the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction, financial insitutions and the workers about its intention to reopen the company's two units before asking for any financial concession.

State finance minister Ashim Dasgupta said that the representatives of the present management of the company called on Basu during the day at Writers' Buidlings and sought financial concession to the tune of Rs 260 million.

Dasgupta said Basu had pointed out during the brief meeting that there had been a lack of confidence in the present management of the company.

''Win the confidence of the workers, the BIFR and the financial institutions first and then come to us,'' Basu told the representatives.

Dasgupta said the chief minister had also made it clear that the state government had been awaiting invocation of certain Acts by the Centre for temporarily taking over the management of the company.

Daughter of Manu Chhabria, Komal Chhabria Wazir, who was present during the meeting with Basu, said she was hopeful about reopening of the two factories of the company.
