Industry remembers Parvinder's penchant for technology and corporate governance

Dr Parvinder Singh, chairman, Ranbaxy Labs, who passed away on July 3, 1999

Business chambers have condoled the untimely passing away of Dr Parvinder Singh, chairman and managing director of Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited, who died on Saturday evening in New Delhi.

Speaking on behalf of the national council and the entire membership of the Confederation of Indian Industry, CII president Rahul Bajaj said that Dr Singh was an outstanding business leader who had created in Ranbaxy an Indian multinational of global stature.

Under his dynamic leadership, Ranbaxy Laboratories had taken on the world and established strong, successful presence in several countries. Dr Singh was a great votary of technology as a tool for competitiveness.

He led the drive for technological excellence by devoting very large resources for R&D and also set up a truly worldclass R&D centre in Gurgaon for the company.

Dr Singh had a passionate drive for quality and excellence in whatever he did. He was a regular speaker at CII's quality summits and was also the first CEO to deliver a lecture on ''Technology as a competitive tool: the CEO's perspective.''

Dr Singh would be remembered for his sterling qualities of ''head'' and ''heart'' and for creating an excellent institution whose future he had assured through outstanding corporate governance, Bajaj said.
