Rally gains steam as FIs, bulls continue buying; Nifty up 9 points to 1349.20

Share prices continued their rally and closed higher on buying support by bull operators and institutional investors at the National Stock Exchange today.

Mirroring the uptrend, the S&P CNX Nifty appreciated by 9.05 points to 1349.20 points from 1340.15 points of the previous day.

CNX Nifty Junior rose by 9.95 points to 2233.65 points from 2223.70 points while the S&P CNX Defty inched up by 6.95 points to 1081.05 points from 1074.10 points.

The S&P CNX 500 Index moved up by 6.90 points to 924.55 point from 917.65 points and CNX Midcap 200 edged up by 0.25 points to 793.90 points from 793.65 points.

NSE witnessed a turnover of Rs 26.45 billion in 336,455 trades, involving 93.61 million shares. Debentures traded were worth Rs 2.66 million.

About 475 securities advanced, 589 declined, 84 remained unchanged while 98 securities hit their price bands today.

The top S&P CNX Nifty gainers were: IPCL which shot up by 7.03 per cent to Rs 117.25 from Rs 109.55, SBI 5.46 per cent to Rs 280.90 (266.35), Bank of India 5.32 per cent to Rs 23.75 (22.55), Ranbaxy 4.66 per cent to Rs 895.70 (855.80) and Hindustan Lever 4.39 per cent to Rs 2697.40 (2583.90).

The top losers were: Tata Chemicals which eased by 4.31 per cent to Rs 71 from Rs 74.20, Infosys Technologies 3.47 per cent to Rs 4625.30 (4791.65), Glaxo 2.63 per cent to Rs 783.50 (804.70), Tisco 2.42 per cent to Rs 145.40 (149) and Indian Rayon 2.31 per cent to Rs 78.30 (80.15).
