Email this report to a friend

A memorandum of understanding will be signed between the business delegations of India and Bangladesh to facilitate better trade relations between the two countries on June 19, the occasion of the inaugural Calcutta-Dhaka bus service.

Former FICCI president A S Kasliwal and president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry Abdul Awal Minto would sign the MoU in the presence of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina.

The purpose of the MoU is to take up vital issues for facilitation and augmentation of trade and investment between the two countries, a FICCI release said today.

Issues related to improvement in transit facilities with emphasis on motor vehicle agreement to allow transportation without trans-shipment would also be considered. Problems in the field of banking and insurance, promotion of joint ventures between the two countries, harnessing of gas reserves and initiation of border trade, especially with the north-east, would be among other issues to be taken up during the meet.
