Bulls continue support; Nifty up 28 points to 1176.35

Pivotals continued their rally and rose further on buying support from bull operators and institutional investors at the National Stock Exchange today.

Mirroring the uptrend, the S&P CNX Nifty Index moved up by 28.20 points to 1176.35 points from 1148.15 ponts of the previous day.

The CNX Nifty Junior improved by 13.40 points to 1900.55 points, while the S&P CNX Defty appreciated by 22.15 points to 944.25 points.

S&P CNX 500 index rose by 14.10 points to 792.20 points from 778.10 points and CNX Midcap 200 edged up by 3.50 points to 665.65 points.

The market witnessed a turnover of Rs 20.30 billion in 292,694 trades, involving 99.33 million shares. The debentures traded were valued at Rs 2.18 million.

Today, 590 scrips gained, 339 lost, 84 remained unchanged while 37 securities hit their price bands today.

The top Nifty gainers were: Reliance Petroleum which shot up by 8.18 per cent to Rs 26.45 from Rs 24.45, MTNL 8.01 per cent to Rs 193.45 (Rs 179.10), Grasim 6.21 per cent to Rs 238.60 (224.65), Indian Hotel 5.76 per cent to Rs 337.85 (319.45) and Hindustan Petroleum 5.50 per cent to Rs 250.15 (237.10).

The top losers were: L&T which shed by 1.67 per cent to Rs 301.15 from Rs 306.25, Tata Tea 1.28 per cent to Rs 393.65 (398.75), Orient Bank 1.22 per cent to Rs 32.30 (32.70), IPCL 0.89 per cent to Rs 105.30 (106.25) and IFCI 0.80 per cent to Rs 12.40 (12.50).
