Dealers square up positions; Sensex loses 15 points to 4109.89

Equities eased on selling pressure by operators busy in squaring-up deals on the last day of the current trading cycle at the Bombay Stock Exchange today.

The key BSE-30 Sensitive Index fell by 15.36 points to end the day at 4109.89 as against the previous close of 4125.25.

The Sensex opened at 4135.60 and witnessed a high and low of 4166.54 and 4105.38 respectively.

Marketmen said that there was buying in select counters by the foreign institutional investors in early part of the session.

However, these gains evaporated due to profit-booking by the fag end.

FIIs reportedly bought in Tisco, Grasim and Indian Rayon counters and sold software stocks like Pentafour and Satyam Computers.

The public financial institutions maintained a nominal presence as they bought in some and sold in other counters.

Reflecting the bearish trend, the BSE-100 index closed at 1759.73, showing a loss of 4.52 points from the previous close of 1764.25.

The BSE-200 index ended at 401.90, falling by 0.66 points while the Dollex index fell by 0.18 points to close at 155.07.

Tisco ended at Rs 146 (up Rs 10), Grasim at Rs 244 (steady), Indian Rayon at Rs 131 (up Rs 7), Pentafour at Rs 940 (down Rs 17) and Satyam Computers at Rs 1150 (down Rs 22).

Marketmen said that the participation of FIIs was not so prominent as the Hong Kong market was closed for a Chinese holiday.
