Rupee ends a tad higher at Rs 43.15 to US $

The rupee ended a tad higher at Rs 43.1400/1450 against the greenback in relatively dull trading at the interbank foreign exchange market today.

The Indian unit opened higher at Rs 43.10/13. But heavy greenback demand from corporates at that level pushed the rupee down to Rs 43.16/17 level within half-an-hour and it remained around that level till noon.

However, the rupee staged a mild rally later recovering some of its intra-day loss on renewed dollar sales by banks and closed at 43.1400/1450, marginally higher from the previous day's close of 43.1450/1550.

Dealers said the market witnessed good activity in the morning, but remained relatively dull most part of the day. State Bank of India did not actively participate in the market today, they added.

Forward dollar premia witnessed lower activities and monthly premia after moving in a narrow range remained almost steady.

The sixth-month and yearly annualised premia ended nearly steady at 5.03 per cent and 5.92 per cent respectively.

The rupee rose against euro, fell against yen while remaining almost steady against pound sterling. The pound sterling ended at Rs 68.68 (68.67), euro at Rs 44.44 (44.63) and yen at Rs 36.19 (35.95). UNI
