Equities close a tad lower; Nifty down 1.2 points to 1175.15

Share prices moved in narrow range and ended marginally lower on selling pressure from bull operators at the National Stock Exchange today.

Mirroring the downtrend, the S&P CNX Nifty eased by 1.20 points to 1175.15 points and CNX Nifty Junior moved down by 7.10 points to 1893.45 points.

The S&P CNX Defty ended 0.55 points lower at 943.70 points. The S&P CNX 500 edged down by 1.75 points to 790.45 points while CNX Midcap 200 shed 1.50 points to end at 664.15 points.

The total turnover, in 258,075 trades, involving 100.80 million shares was Rs 15.76 billion and the debentures traded were valued at Rs 1.97 million.

Today, 506 shares declined, 423 gained, 94 remained unchanged while 33 securities hit their price bands today.

The top losers were Bank of India which slid by 7.41 per cent to Rs 20, ICICI 2.91 per cent to Rs 70.10, M&M 2.53 per cent to Rs 273.60, MTNL 2.38 per cent to Rs 188.85 and Gujarat Ambuja Cement 2.21 per cent to Rs 327.90.

Top gainers were East India Hotel which shot up by 8.01 per cent to Rs 211, Indian Rayon 7.15 per cent to Rs 132.60, Tisco 6.82 per cent to Rs 145.60, Tata Chemicals 4.57 per cent to Rs 73.20 and Indian Hotel 4.31 per cent to Rs 352.40.
